Enjoy the view, watch the stars, and listen to the owls or the breeze in the overhead branches as you relax in our outdoor, log fired, cedarwood hot tub. It will be a memorable part of your stay, all the more so on a crisp morning or a still Borrowdale night. Chemical-free, the hot tub uses UV light treated water from our own fell reservoir and is heated using wood recovered from around our property, Manesty farm, and off cuts from local businesses. The hot tub is located in woodland behind the cottages, and enjoys spectacular views overlooking Borrowdale. Setting and lighting the fire yourself is part of the unique experience, and we make sure there is wood available. Exclusive use for the day costs £30.
Heating time 3 - 4 hours
Guests light and feed the fire to heat the water
Available Friday - Monday
9th August 2021: We are re-opening our outdoor hot tub to book for private use by the day.
The UV treated water in the hot tub is changed between each booking. However, because the hot tub drains into a stream, we cannot chlorinate the water or use disinfectants in the hot tub.
We have decided to re-open the hot tub because
- it has been indicated that transmission of Covid-19 via surfaces is significantly less likely than through the air (https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-021-00251-4 )
- it is outside and for private use only
- the water is changed between bookings
- of the success of the British vaccination program.
However as we cannot disinfect surfaces between users, use of the hot tub is at your own risk.
We are not able to offer as much assistance with the hot tub as we have previously, therefore to use the hot tub you need to be confident lighting and maintaining a fire. Please read about operating the hot tub before booking.
Using the hot tub

The water takes 3 – 4 hours to heat and the fire needs to be fed about every 45 minutes. We are available for advice or help, but lighting and feeding the fire is all part of the experience so guests do need to plan be around Manesty and their accommodation for 3 – 4 hours before the time they expect to be able to get into the tub.
Availability of the hot tub
We cannot guarantee availability of the hot tub so if hot tubbing is an integral part of your holiday plans, you may prefer to consider alternative accommodation. Guests can provisionally book 1 day in the hot tub in advance. The availability of the hot tub on this day will be confirmed on arrival.
The hot tub is closed on Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays. The hot tub is not available to anyone who is not a guest with us here at Manesty. Guests may not invite people who are not staying at Manesty to use the hot tub.
